Why read a book when you can look at pictures?

During this course, we will read a graphic novel. What is a graphic novel? What's the point? Is it really a novel? How do images and words work together to create something that is more than a graphic, and even more than a novel?

I think that looking at the pictures in the book can help you get a better understanding of the story and whats going on. But when you read a book with no pictures it can help develop you creative skills. Also it can help your imagination. (I think)

If there are more pictures you can get more of a visual vision. You can understand the book more and make your own visual picture. You pay more attention and notice more things.

A graphic novel is a novel that has pictures. It’s almost like a picture book. The point of a graphic novel is to show you what’s going on as you read. The pictures help you understand what is going in the story as you read. Yes, a graphic novel is really a novel because it tells a story just with graphics added. The images and words work together in a way to show you what is going on.

I agree with both Ms. Skittles and Sestallion because both of you had almost the same reponse as I did.

Just looking at the pictures doesnt tell the whole story. There could be an ironic twist to the picture and what the characters are saying. And you could get the wrong perception of the story.

A graphic novel is a novel that has more pictures than word. The point is show people that you can understand a book other than words. Yes its is a novel its a graphic novel. Due to the fact that it has words.

A graphic novel is a novel with graphic pictures. Because the picture klets you see the setting and it can even set a mood. If it has words then i guess it is a novel. The words and images work together because it can out you in the story at a fourth person point of view

A graphic novel is like a comic book .the point of it is too getting more of a visual point of view of the story rather then just reading. Yes I will consider this a novel because you are still reading and you are getting something out of it. Images and words work together to create a novel by how the pictures are drawn to express the words more.

The point of a graphic novel is to give images as well as a good story line. I think words and pictures work together because sometimes novels can be really long and I happen to get bored and tired of reading long books. The story “AMERICAN BORN CHINESE” Is a good example because I read a 280 page novel in 2 days but it just happens to be a graphic novel which made it even more interesting.

I disagree with Puba15 because not all books should have pictures. Some books should just have words to help you grasp whats going on in the story. This will help you have your own imagination.
